I have learned humility,
to respect my brother,
to walk on the straight line
when the man in blue
requires compliance,
but I am not drunk,
and I am not free,
yet tonight I will eat
hoppers on national
televsion, not in a private
soiree, so the fisherman
and cobbler, the man
who shaved my beard,
will see that I belong
to them, and am
ready to say to the boss,
enough, too much.
Thank you for your service,
now goodbye.
Let hoppers be served
in all departments
from North to South.
Let us celebrate
the Ceylonese Spring.
