Quote from pro-Gov columnist’s latest article https://www.colombotelegraph.com/index.php/the-info-navi-pillay-was-fed-with/

If true, GL Peiris is guilty of, (1) getting his facts wrong (2) getting the name of the agency responsible for the report wrong (3) getting the number of respondents wrong, repeatedly.

Still no clarification from UN system or MEA. The circus goes on.

He added.

As far as we know OCHA in Sri Lanka hasn’t issued any report on the lines of what GL Peiris claims. Is the 197 confusing the 917 respondents in the UNHCR poll and report?

GLP is a politician, so is Dayan and Rajiva; where in the world do you find politicians with principles ? No where not even in the “wonder of Asia”

I agree whole heartedly with Dev on the uniformity in integrity among these “educated” [edited out] – GL, Rajiva, DJ and Vitharana.

It is ironic – but as far as Sri Lanka goes, the curse of the country in the last five decades have been not the uneducated, but rather the educated ones.

90% of those educated with integrity remained silent over unfairness even as it rose to become abuse and atrocities, while the 10% of the educated but integrity-challenged as represented by the above four contributed solidly and unrelentingly to that downfall of the once-proud democratic nation.

In some ways, Prof. GL is better, he has decided that he prefers to be in government (UNP or SLFP) and do whatever it takes to stay in power/perks. His rants and ravings against any critism of Sri Lanka is a result of this hunger !
(Same applied to Vitharana)

People like Dayan and Rajiva on the other hand while “criticizing” the government have not got the guts to quit, a classic tale of “”run with the hare and hunt with the hounds.””

Who is worse? I would say the latter group ! But as Dev as pointed out, it is surely a curse that we have been (as a country) dealt people like this.

In my opinion, Dayan, Rajiva and Thisa V are the same, only difference is that they were not as academically brilliant as GLP but when it comes to having dignity and holding on to one’s principle…..well I think we all know where they stand on that !

Prof GL is neither Prof Vitarana nor Prof Rajiva, and not Dr Dayan either, he is what he
is. Study is one thing, how have you been guided in life is other. I am sure
most of the people who expect some kind of decency from a well educated person
would feel the same as you and I do about him. But his ‘Jumping boats’ at opportune
time between the alternative governments showcases the principles he adheres. His
character reminds me of the saying “Those are my principles, and if you do not
like them…well, I have others”. Mahinda believes GL needs more to learn, that
is what he nominated a young guy to monitor/mentor him. Even with this
arrangement doesn’t perturbed him. His rant with the visiting Canadian MP was
nothing short of Mervyn’s recent antics with the Lady. Good luck for him, pearks are important than principles, Sir.

Sri Lanka’s most educated person, a Rhodes scholar and a VC of Colombo-this man had everything most people only dream of achieving in 10 lifetimes. He studies at St Thomas College, from a wealthy family !!

However, for reasons known only to him, he has stooped to this level after entering politics, I honestly feel sad at this countries fate when I see people like him ! Today he is being “monitored” by an MP (whose qualifications are suspect) and he is often ignored by the president as well-why would you put yourself through this misery?

As for the numbers he quotes, well wasn’t this the man who after the UNHCR vote in 2012 said:
15 votes against the resolution + 8 abstentions means Sri Lanka only lost by a single vote 🙂

Appears to be the case incomprehension is a more widespread problem than with just the Foreign Minister. Where in this quoted text is the substantiation for the statement that “… 90% of who said they were comfortable with living there”.
