Is Bribery A Fact of Life in Sri Lanka?

Is bribery a fact of life in Sri Lanka?

The following video captures perceptions on bribery and corruption across five cities, and in English, Sinhala and Tamil.

The issue of corruption has gained new focus politically, with the activities of a new Special High Court, established to hear cases of large-scale financial fraud and corruption. On August 27, notice was issued to the former Defence Secretary along with 6 others – the second case filed by the Court since its establishment on August 21.

In this video, citizens reflected on corruption and how embedded it can be in everyday life, including their own (willing or unwilling) participation through paying bribes.

This video is part of a series of stories, including infographics and photo essays, looking at the issue of corruption since 2017. Read the content here, here and here.
