It’s ironical that Hilmy wrote an article recently under the title “Wijedasa Rajapaksa: Unfit for the job of Justice and Buddha Sasana Minister” in which he blamed both Sirisena and Ranil of leaning towards Buddhist extremism. However he was not warning Ranil of racism (albeit finding him to be a sympathiser of Buddhist extremism!) but he did not warn Ranil of 20 years of opposition should he not correct Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa.

Hilmy like some UNP media men and many Muslim academics convinced Muslims that the trio (Sirisena , Ranil and Chandrika) would liberate them from the extreme Buddhist forces and lead them to the promised land. Now a chameleon is becoming red and want his community to change their colour like him by embarking on propaganda supporting JVP. He says in his above article, that

“The Muslims voted Sirisena not because they trusted him, but were convinced that UNP Government under Ranil Wickremesinghe’s premiership will not be racist. Today, they have been proved wrong and it is up to the Prime Minister to convince President Sirisena that he is courting disaster with his ultra racist policies. Failure would mean another 20 years in Opposition for the United National Party. The winner would be the JVP because it is unlikely that the Muslims will ever trust the Rajapaksa clan.”

He has made a new story now to say that “the Muslims voted Sirisena not because they trusted him, but they were convinced that UNP Government under Ranil Wickremesinghe’s premiership will not be racist.” . The Muslims voted for Sirisena before the parliamentary election when there was no guarantee that Ranil would be a prime minister. The Muslims voted Sirisena trusting him that he would not be supporting BBS and other Buddhist elements in the future. Hilmy is merely trying to make Ranil believe that the Muslims would keep him in power for another 20 years should he stop Sirisena. The Muslim voters cannot make Ranil or his party to be in power for 20 years whether or not he controls Sirisena.

Hilmy also issues a grave warning in his previous article that

“The Muslims are set to send a strong message to the Government at the forth-coming local government elections that their votes cannot be taken for granted. The likely beneficiary would be the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
zHilmy is in control of a media known as young Asia TV and has always been a supporter of the UNP and lost his credibility of being a fair journalist in every aspect by supporting one party over the other for his own political conviction. [edited] He is now embarking on a JVP propaganda to mislead the Muslims. He now takes the Muslims for granted for his own political inaptitude.
The Muslims should deal with the Wilpattu land issue or any others issues in accordance with fundamental rights law in the appropriate legal forum. Muslim media personnel who are concerned about the Muslim issues in Sri Lanka should know well where they stand and what they are expected to do as a journalists. [edited]

The writer’s references to his connection to Avant Garde, the BBS, Gota and other facts are well publicized and that little or nothing is being done about the charges against his ‘special interest’ individuals speaks volumes for the current administration and Rajapakse himself.

‘Yahapalanaya’ is a fancy tag for this administration whose actions so far have done nothing to bolster those of us who voted for them in the hope that they would live up to their promises. Alas, it just the same old crap (albeit with a few changes for the better) and if they don’t quickly remedy their failings, we will be in for a rough ride over the next few years!
