If we look back at the world history, it is clearly evident that buddhists are the least violent and monks should try to maintain it that way. Taliban, ISIS etc… (more here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_designated_terrorist_groups) just adds up black marks to peace loving Muslims as well.
I however disagree to one thing from the author. He suggest that region to be a private affair. Buddhism is preserved mostly in Sri Lanka. So I do not see any problem giving state support to safeguard and promote Buddhism (Not with BBS & similar monks). As far as I am aware, in middle east countries you are not allowed to practice your faith. You cannot take a buddha statue and if you got caught it will cost your head. There are no temples or kovils (Pls correct me if I am wrong). For example in UAE constitution article 7; it clearly says that Islam is the official relegion (pls correct me if I am wrong). Compared to these muslim countries that allow only one religion blessed by the government; Sri Lanka has much more freedom to practice your faith.
]]>The UNHRC is expecting a progress assessment on the last UNHURC
resolution in June 2016.
There is practically no progress in war crimes and disappearances’
inquiry because SL does not have the skills.
The soldiers have not left NE as promised and about 96% Tamil civilian
land is not yet handed back.
Reconciliation is at a standstill as the Sinhala offenders have not even
apologised the offended Tamils on genocide and damage for the past 67
years of political deception and military oppression.
The message is ver5y clear. SL will NOT implement the UNHRC resolution.
The UN must take steps to implement the full UNHRC resolution in a
manner they did in East Timor.
