We used to correspond and during the late nineties and early 2000. Enjoyed your views and desire to find a solution to our perpetual problem. I am glad you had a chance since 2008 to pursue your academic interest. Hard to believe you are at retirement age. I hope universities in Sr Lanka finds endowed Chairs for Professors of your caliber and both personal, social and academic integrity.
I am happy to know of your expressed desire to help to establish a University Press and encourage rigorous research and publication. In wishing you the best in your new academic adventure I would also appeal to you to bring your experience and accumulated knowledge to search for a solution for our political problem before descend into the cauldron of war.

to know that your leaving as i come into the university is truly a sad fact. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with you only once but what i most admire is not how erudite a lecturer and academic you are but your humbleness. As an undergraduate i was merely just one of the many students you see pass through these halls. But you always spoke to me when we met or at least smiled to me recollecting that i was that student you talked to many days ago. That simple fact meant a lot to me, coming from you as you are one of the few great intellectuals of our country.
I hope to still see you coming back to the university as a visiting lecturer but to know that you have left your previous position in the university is truly unfortunate.

His ardent work at the university shows that he is sure to live through his students’ words and actions for generations to come.

I remember reading his writings on Pravada when I was a student studying political science at Ananda, this was one of the best academic journals. Prof Uyangoda is humble and a wonderful person, every time we have spoken it was an interesting conversation at his place and at the last event at the memorial lecture of Ambedkar. He will be remembered as one of the great scholars in Political Science of our country.

He is an outstanding, trained academic on research methodology in social sciences and Humanities.

He is a high-caliber academic, highly respected by scholars all round the world, a good gentleman and most importantly a really humble human being. I particularly like his ability to work with different generations, his dynamism and youthfulness in his day-today life. Prof. Uyan will be remembered as one of best scholars in his generation. Hope he will continue to contribute with his ideas in retirement.
