Since Muslims are forbidden to receive interest for what appears to be a valid and logical reason, why can’t banks set up zero interest accounts for them. The banks could charge a small administrative charge for storing the money but must be prohibited from investing or loaning any of this money for any purpose. No need to label such accounts as Sharia. We can all guess how IS might be funded by various legitimate sources.

The main values prescribed in any religion is; mercy, love, kindness, care, truthfulness, forgiveness and the like.

In the slaughterinjg of cattle under Islam, killing is justified and there is absolute cruelty in the act of killing and shedding of blood, with no respect for life or the main values expected in all religions.

When any follower of a religion upholds a minor or meagre aspect as more important than the main or major aspect, he becomes a fanatic or extremist in that religion.

This is what made IS Jihadists to slaughter innocent people and children, and BBS to protest against Halal meat and now Sharia Banking.

Therefore, we must allow President Sirisena to do his job. He has asked the minister to explain, based on the information by a citizen. Perhaps there was no cabinet approval or some other irregularities. May be Sharia banking is unnecessary, fanatic or bad for SL.

Racism is against a race and not a religion. Therefore, it is wrong to call the president a racist.

1..It isn’t 30-yr conflict but 67-yr conflict – many seem to inadvertently say conflict instead of war. Conflict started with the Citizenship Act of 1948/9.
2.t is very sad that the President is not doing what he thinks is right: Ethnic minorities should press the President to press on with the change of ”mindset of the South” – it shouldn’t be seen only as a statement( or rebuff?) last week to the visiting head of IFRC: ”whenever the people talk of reconciliation, international agencies rush to former conflict areas in the North and East seeking reconciliation among the people. it is people in the North and East who suffered most due to the protracted conflict and reconciliation should originate from the people in the South and it should be inculcated in their mindset”
If he tells this to the parliament and calls media to tell them to spread the message to Sinhala masses, a solution to the ethnic issue can be found reasonably easily and UN and many international, regional and national organisations and foreign affairs offices of amny concerned governments will save their time and energy for other urgent matters.
The ethnic minorities’ lives will no more be wasted without sustainable development when the UN has planned it for the whole world with planned goals for set periods of time. It will be in effect following the suggestions of the recent report by the World Bank too. Sustainable development of the North will have positive effect of the South but also on that of a wider area. Unsustainable changes in one part of a system, ie. the planet has negative effect on the rest of the system directly or indirectly.
3.Furthermore the present Minister of Foreign Affairs(just as his predecessors) will not have to be flown around the world to keep lying on international platforms to get foreign financial investment in Sri Lanka

Islamic banking is not a secular concept. Therefore it is not allowed in India. It is a primitive 7th century concept that has no place in modern societies (except perhaps in Islamic ones).

It can even be used as a way to proselytise poor non-Islamic users and could could open a back route for “dubious funds in the Middle East do not enter our country through legally baptized channels of Sharia compliant financial institutions”.
