To name a few: Up to about 1983, mainly activists, journalists, social workers, priests. Equally bad were arrests of relatives of the afore. When the civil war ended in May 2009, emaciated civilians were kept in Vanni internment camps. Every night able bodied were trucked away never too be seen again. Even in 2014 regularly Vanni residents were taken away. On a few occasions the bodies were shown to the families but not handed over.

A stock explanation by the pre2015 GoSL was that the ‘disappeared’ have gone overseas. This included Prageeth Eknaligoda who was supposed to be in France but the latest is that he was murdered. The Mannar mass-grave was explained away as a burial plot. Can list hundreds of cases.

The present GoSL is duty bound to probe every case of disappeared. Eelam Tamils have grieved and grieved.
