As you stated Roger these mega companies dont really care. Their main goal is to make a profit. Im not sure what we could do to fairly penalize them, but they will never accept and upgrade all their factories to the safety standards thrust upon them. It would be too costly. It would probably be cheaper just to build a whole new factory.

Who will decide what is adequate and fair compensation? Furthermore a petition signed by the general public will be based on hearsay and is a dangerous course of action which can be resorted to and instigated by competing protagonists.
What should be done instead is to pressure both the NWS&DB and the CEA to initiate legal action against Coca Cola for violating the terms of the environmental licence. Coca Cola will also have a chance to present their case and if found guilty, maximum penalties could be imposed and compensation claims awarded by court. We need to build Sri Lankans’ faith and dependence on the justice system.
