But the Rajapakses actively promoted it to get a large following behind them and the sickening phenomenon was official and anyone could get on to the bandwagon.
”until they come for me” attitude among the moral objectors to the overwhelming sickness began to be attacked by the Common Candidature and ”canchangeSL” won the day on 8Jan.
But the determination to make the right choice between stability and virtue and between myths and realities in all matters pertinent to daily life needs to be positively nurtured to reverse the ”sickening phenomenon” engulfing most of the society.
We are lucky to have got someone simple and sturdy like Maithripala Sirisena. We won’t be lucky a second time.
The dirty games many Ministers are still playing need to be challenged.
