My story to add to Amina’s, a Burgher musician friend and I had a habit of hanging out in places where there was live music. He an anthropologist in a previous incarnation, always checked out the race of the musicians testing the hypothesis that many remain descendents from the Dutch and Portugese Burghers. In one instance, Rohan (not his real name) one of the guys in a band responded to my friend’s question about whether there were any Burghers in the ensemble with: “yes sir, three burgher boys, the singer is Sinhalese, and I am Christian”…
