” Buddhist or any other monk(s) for that matter should not be contesting for political power, which is an analytical possibility”
‘Power’ = ‘Thanha’ (Pali) Read and investigate ‘Patichcha Samuppada’

Small concern of mine is looking into may be still more deeply as to why Buddhist or any other monk(s) for that matter should not be contesting for political power, which is an analytical possibility. We would also have to then necessarily include/ cite strong (spiritual) examples of ‘good fit between religion and politics’ to alter the existing discourse of ‘negative religio-political power’ as I see it. Cheers!

With regard to Sobhitha Thera’s single issue candidacy, isn’t there a way in Buddhism for a monk to take a temporary break? He doesn’t intend to stay long in office; just long enough to abolish the post of Presidency.
