”Home-grown solution, NO interference from outside world” has been the chorus when many human rights organisations suggested years ago that South Africa could help Sri Lanka. Even South Africa was vilified to even think of it. But alas, just as South Africa is going to exercise its vote at UNHRC, Sri Lanka goes into action:
”External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris told the Daily Mirror yesterday a Sri Lankan delegation led by Leader of the House and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva was to leave for South Africa yesterday to hold talks with the authorities of that country on February 20 and 21” .

LLRC stated that the country’s political situation now is like that at the beginning of independence !!!!

North and the East bombed to displace people and then grab their lands and when the people comeback at last the people are allowed to lament in ”transit” camps for years or dump the willing in jungles some of which have gifts of elephants to maraud them. The occupation army is given free rules and regulations of their own.

What are the young politicians learning? Do you see them say ”Let’s be different from the old politicians. Let’s obey the national and international laws. Let us change for the better. Let us have justice for all and thus peace for the country” ????

This project should e repeated with young politicians. PLEASE.

The author has a Master of Science degree. He could have put his education to better use by analyzing more important issues such as the works of Robert Dahl who died two weeks ago. Or he could have analysed the implications of Halford Mackinder’s work since this year marks the 110th anniversary of his groundbreaking paper.

Not only in rural areas but every nook and corner in the country has been watching successive government politicise the institutions, steamroll political patronage in services dealing with people, discriminate a section of the people and unleash violence of riots on them, ”appoint commissions” to cheat the national and international community,and don’t publish reports, give immunity and impunity to the armed forces and allied forces for unlawful actions and then declare ‘Poya days” and bow in front of bhikkus, …..for 65yrs.

They see the heads of government and other polliticians elected by them lie through their teeth on national and international platforms.
They see
i.politicians engage in dirty actions and get away without any rule of law acting on them
and
ii. successive governments pay PR firms to lie for them on international arena

They see their own governments rob the poor to reward the rich.

All these going on for decades after ”independence” – our own rule – nobody outside the country comes and tells us to do all these inhuman things. In fact they come and tell us: ”please abide by national and international laws” when they are told ”don’t infringe our sovereignty”

What is the impression that the old and the young get ?
