Comments on: Media monitoring of Navi Pillay’s visit to Sri Lanka

There is no history of dictators or criminal regimes continue in their blood-path for long like Hitler, Pol Pot but given the advancement in science and technology, the International community should swift to put an end to madness, extremism and barbarianism thus reducing the number of victims and colossal damage to the society.

Although the war ended in may 2009, hundreds of thousand of people including the surrendered POWs are disappeared at the hands of the state forces and state sponsored gangs.

What does the following show to the world?
“Since 1981, 114 persons have been killed due to the exercise of freedom of expression, including journalists and media workers.”

“34 Journalists have been documented as killed between 2005 till to date…”

“Over 50 journalists, including prominent and well known press freedom activists, have gone into exile since 2009.”

What more required to the International Community to forcefully investigate crimes against humanity, use of chemical weapons against the Tamils and the genocide?

Thanks for this, I was wondering this myself as I saw so little coverage on her visit in the Daily News. I read the Daily news during my lunch break, more as a “laugh” to see what spin is given to events here but was surprised to see so little on Ms. Pillay’s visit-this quantifies that feeling I got, thanks GV for this effort.

I think this is not only with regard to the visit but even the LLRC is still a mystery to the vast majority of the people, not realizing that it will benefit the whole country but no…..ignorance is good for the ruling elites

Same goes with regard to the coverage of what goes on in the north -the forced birth control a case in point !

Presidential Commission appointed by the ex-president Mrs Chandrika Bandaranayake concluded that the media orchestrated the 1983 Black July riots by publishing the killing of 13 soldiers by LTTE and blacking out the retaliatory killing of 56 Tamil civilians in Jaffna by the military. The journalists and editors of English and Sinhala media wine and dine with the president and observe a self censorship of news that haapen in Tamil speaking areas. It’s sad but institutional racism is rife in our country.

I like to comment about Gotabaya’s statement on Extremism.

The Defence Secretary said: “We have experienced untold hardships due
to terrorism, separatism and cross-border operations over the past
three decades. Although the war ended over four years ago, extremism can
cause major problems for Sri Lanka. The government is aware of the
danger and the consequences of the failure to address the issue. We are
taking steps on the ground to meet the threat.”

Sinhala
extremism was the first one to show its ugly head in 1958. Since then it
has escalated to cause repression, State terrorism and genocide of
Tamils.

Can Russia and China first extricate this mad and long standing curse of Sinhala extremism in Sri Lanka.
