I am not against having multiple stations. I hated the days where the announcers presented “sarala gee” programs in the same tone they read out obituary notices. Problem with the new announcers is that they are not educated and talk nonsense.

There is one station that has decent announcers and limit talking. That is VIP Radio http://wanni.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/103-6-fm-vip-radio-a-station-with-a-new-approach/ Unfortunately this station is not audible enough.

I share your concern about excesses of some radio announcers, but that in itself is not an argument against having multiple radio channels. While the real choice available to Lankan radio listeners is not as high as it could be, it’s still far better than having just state-owned radio to listen to (when the only alternative was shortwave transmissions from overseas broadcasters).

The listener is king. You can change channels until a better one is found – there are dozens crowding the FM band now. And if none meets your approval, switch the radio of and read a book!
