Though what happened in 1989/90 has been swept under the carpet what happened to the Tamils will not be easily forgotten. It is going to take time for justice to be done, but it will be done. It was heartening to see Charles Taylor the former Liberian dictator being found guilty of aiding and abetting war crimes in Sierra Leone at the Hague tribunal recently.
The magnitude of the crimes committed by SL armed forces on the orders of the Rajapaksas’ are far more heinous compared to what happened in Liberia. The evidence is mounting and the clock is ticking.

There are reports (Wikipedia) that their bodies are in a mass grave at Suriyakande. Until now, there has been no explanation by the army.
There will not be any explanation either, about the ‘disappearance’ of LTTE cadres who surrendered to the army at the end of the war in 2009.
Many persons who wished to make statements before the LLRC about surrendees were chased away, and the commission also did not reserve time to hear many others in colombo, jaffna & batticaloa.
There are rumours about secret detention camps. There have been no clear statements about the number of LTTE cadres being held.
A database giving particulars about detainees, promised to the TNA,by the government,is unavailable.

and suffering of those looking for their disappeared
loved ones.As a first step the Government should publish
the names of those LTTE suspects detained and in custody.

This will give some relief to at least the families
of those who are alive and will narrow down the search for
the others still missing.
