Minister Weerawansa declared that the singing of the national anthem in Tamil is a joke…..”

Well, may be…., However, asking a citizen of a country to sing national anthem at gun point is a joke, to me.

“……availability of DVD shops, liquor, smoking even promoted by the soldiers could be the causes for such lack of interest….”

Not bad after all…ask the Sinhalese! So, what are you complaining about?

I thought the library isn’t standing anymore, the way you described it!

Let’s get down to groundwork: what can we practically do about this please:

http://transcurrents.com/tc/2010/10/young_religious_visit_their_ow.html#more
Young religious visit their own suffering brothers and sisters in Northern Sri Lanka, Rev.Fr.Lasantha de Abrew, 25 October 2010:
”… The high military presence in these areas makes the resettled persons more tensed, uncomfortable and uneasy. The regular visits of the soldiers to their half built houses and temporary sheds, frequent arrests of the young males on various justified and unjustified charges, and inviting the children to the camps to watch films make them uneasy. …. Easy availability of DVD shops, liquor, smoking even promoted by the soldiers could be the causes for such lack of interest. ….We had an opportunity to visit Sannar in the District Mannar where the people are living in temporary huts donated by the UNHCR. They were told that they would be resettled in their own land but they are relocated in a jungle as their own land has been named a High Security Zone under the Sri Lankan Army. ….’’

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/LK06Df01.html
Vandalism at library frightens Tamils, Sudha Ramachandran, 6 November 2010: ‘’Thirty years after the Jaffna Public Library in Sri Lanka was burnt down by Sinhalese mobs, it has been vandalized again.
Last week, hundreds of Sinhalese went on a rampage in the library, throwing books and documents on the floor. The library has been closed to visitors since the incident.’’

boring. All the rhetoric of our half baked western educated
intellectuals does not get to the point. That point was well
defined by a list of eternal truths which is headed by the simple
words THIS IS IT there is a righteous refusal to accept the reality
– and the reality that we are all co-opted into this state of
disgrace. It is easy to rant and rail against the muck out there –
what about the muck in here? what about all our personal moral
failings – are we going to keep them nicely covered and indulge in
this abstract reasoning? are we going to remain blind to our OWN
selves?

Why only half, bandu? The ‘First Nation’ should be given
the whole anthem and it could be sung like this
perhaps:Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr//

This is very interesting what you are saying about the cancellations of the events in the Jaffna side and Colombo side. Some [Edited out] peioples like you are always blaming the governent for destroying the freedom of speech. But I am here to be telling you, doctor to doctor, that you are badly mistaken. There are two types of freedom of speech in the Sri Lanka these days. There is freddom of speech which is the right of the peoples to be saying their opinions. Then there is the “freedom of the speech” which is what the baby Tigers are denying Our Majesty at the Oxford. This is the more important freedom for the country, for Our Majesty to be going anywhere in the world and saying waht ever is coming into his head anytime he is liking. Please not be confusing the two freedoms and spreading lies about our country. We are just finishing terrible war on behalf of Our Majesty. We are not wanting to fight another one for the freedom also.

In fact and truthfully speaking, I am also thinking that it is more than enough if only Our Majesty is allowed to be speakig in the country. Other peoples should be just listening and nodding. This is a new freedom we can be creating – the freedom to be listening and nodding -and leading the world in showing the UN that we are making revolution in the freedoms. The Wimal is already nodding so hard sometimes I am thinking the head is going to be falling off and rolling down the gutterside. The whole countryside can be learning this skill very soon: listening and nodding while Our Majesty is speaking.

I am also thinking this Natioonal Anthem is causing too much trouble. If something is causing trouble we must be getting rid of it. Where is Lasantha Wickremetunge now? Where is the Prageeth? Where are you thinking the Wickremebahu is going? Troublesome things and peoples are all going away leaving Our Majesty teh freedom of the thought the spech adn teh deed also. So I am thinking, get rid of anthem also and replace with something simple, like noise or call. I am even having idea for national noise:

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

then Singhala every where. In fact a new antham half tamil and half
Singhalese should eb developee and sunk everywhere including South.
That is the unity. Otherwise my tamil collegue says a close word in
tamil for Antham which means end. That would happen to the
country.
