that is the title Punitham

so just to press on with my previous point – are we as a nation interested in personal or just academic learning? Does the personal learning dimension exist anymore – does it exist at all in the LLRC

and finally is Mr Fernando interested in a dialogue with ordinary citizens like us?

all things said and done LTTE Terrorism was defeated – and many human beings contributed towards its downfall. To me there is a story here – and one which is relevant for posterity.

That story is about the way the men and women in the armed forces – the public service and society – reviewed past mistakes – past personal shortcomings and rectified these mistakes for the final showdown to ensure the defeat of the LTTE. There are people who claim that the last phase led to human rights abuses – if so that is a negative – but we are interested in people who changed themselves to respond to this challenge – and were thus able to effect a transformation that touched their inner being in the process.

are you interested in such an inquiry? do you think the LLRC is?

Development Dilemmas: Challenges of Working in Conflict and Post Conflict situations in South Asia, DFID Conference, 5 – 6 March 2007: ‘’Economic growth is not an alternative to political conflict resolution. In Sri Lanka donor pressure to address development issues and post conflict reconstruction in 2002/3 could not make up for the lack of political progress in dealing with the central issue of the conflict. Aid became a distraction from the peace process, and then a point of division. Donors had inflated ideas about the importance of economic incentives, whereas for the LTTE the political factors were far more important.”

But they were, shall I say, (if you permit me to use that) ‘a secondary type group’ and this was not liked by the Muslims at all.”

This is really worrying. Why was it signed this way?

Restitution includes resettling all displaced who are living in Sri Lanka which essentially includes Sinhalese and Muslims too. Natural growth rate of the displaced populations must be included.
