My input below (small, and empty of action as it is) may seem condescending/similar, so but I assure you my comment is instead a genuine appreciation and recognition of courage and integrity of the signatories.
To the signatories:
Just a note, hopefully will be of encouragement to you, to thank you for your courage in, and the risk you have taken in, writing thus as citizens. I and MANY others of your fellow citizens ARE in full agreement with what you have said, despite our lack of taking the same step you have taken (perhaps “despite us not having had the courage and integrity to do do what you did” is more accurate).
I see two key factors in your situation (factors which shouldn’t exist in our country, but they do exist) which make your action EVEN more courageous than some other courageous letters (some of which HAVE received praising comments and thanks), e.g., those of http://www.groundviews.org/2010/09/07/university-academics-statement-on-the-proposed-18th-amendment-to-the-constitution/ or http://www.groundviews.org/2010/09/08/law-students-write-against-18th-amendment/ or http://www.island.lk/index.php?page_cat=article-details&page=article-details&code_title=5972 .
So, thanks.
Sohan Fernando.
