Already these countries have given USD 140 million for the election campaign through their NGOs to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa who refused to succumb to their threats.

Accordingly US$40 million has been given to the opposition candidate himself and the balance US$ 100 million has been divided and given to the organizers who are supporting the opposition candidate.

One of his famous lines is “After January 26th you watch how I do things….” Truly scares me that the man has the balls to say it. Then again he had the balls to go against LTTE. I am thankful for what he did for the country, but I DO not want a military man with a personality like his as a democratic leader! Part of me kind of wants him to come to power just so people will realise what’s in store, but that’s still too much damage just for me to have bragging rights!

He will have to drastically change the status quo (reinvent the wheel, so to speak) if we are to see actual *worthwhile* changes. That means he will have to empower various institutions to carry out their duties in accordance with the law. He will have to remove the various obstacles that stand in their way, such as corruption and political intervention. Mahinda did exactly the opposite. Look at his nominations for Central Bank governor, Supreme Court justice, etc. He appointed friends (essentially sycophants) in order to minimize any opposition. Is it any wonder that so many institutions have become stagnant? These institutions don’t take risks, they don’t grow, they simply passively absorb whatever Mahinda and the jumbo cabinet throw at them. Given the opportunity, SF will have to restore democracy from the ground up.

He should be a well disiplined, hard working personality. Out of the two, SF seems to have these characteristics.

He has ZERO political experience but a lot of military experience. He has no idea what it takes to run a country. it’s sad to see folks in the UNP putting pleasant words in Sarath Fonseka’s mouth without letting him actually speak his own mind – if he did, we would see just how dangerous he is to Sri Lanka’s future.
