Also, from an economic point of view, how profitable is tourism? For example, the last time I went to Anuradhapura, some small chap came up to me and asked money for schoolbooks. This was in 06′, when tourism was steadily gaining. I have a gutsy feeling, though, that if I went in 16′ (2016), the chaps son would be asking yet the same thing. I don’t believe that tourism is necessarily sustainable in the long-term. I can’t *prove* that however, without some hard economic data. Notice that I said not *necessarily*; there seem to be places like Monte Carlo that get away with it; on the other their clientele is extremely limited and extremely wealthy (what does that say about expected profit margins?).
