Sarath Fonseka is a war criminal. Mahinda Rajapakse is a war criminal. 20,000 unarmed combatants were ruthlessly slaughtered during the “final battle.” Now these war criminals will battle each other to seize control of the nation. One must question the motivations for the war in the first place. Would it have been better to just let the Tamil people go their own way?

Our country has got to where it has through a certain mind set. Our voting behaviour has literally been based on the belief that the frying pan is better than the fire. So we have leapt indiscriminately, like grasshoppers, and as brainlessly, either being fried or being fired.

Where that has got us is to put political parties and the democratic voter into a yoyo type behaviour, which also reflects on the manner in which political parties are “formed” and coalitons nobbled together.

I call it political prostitution for want of a better word. We sacrifice truth, principles, morals and even ethics in this burning passion for success.

The existing government got where it is today because it slept with the enemy. When parties aspire to power, by linking hands with the existing terrorist organisation then what we are seeing is not genuine concern for the country but hunger for power, and that is always a corrupting force. When parties reach out their hand in desperation to a man whose ethics and principles are nothing short of disastrous in terms of what has so far been voiced, then I call it political prostitution.

As voters our democracy is also the right to be tired of what we already have.
And many of us are not just tired, but sick to the teeth of the moral wasteland the nation has become.

yet I take objection to our nation going down a road, where instead of raising up decent and humane leaders, who actually care about the future of our nation – as Kusal points out, a multicultural, multi racial nation – we are settling for the quickest fix that gets us into power.

I have no solution to offer, and the existing malady is dreadful, but replacing one disease with another is hardly the way out for the nation.

Talking to SF is one thing, but are we as a nation willing to ignore the violation of human rights, the avoidance of enquiry, the statements of the past that reveal a mind set that indicates no actual visionary desire to see that equality is created and the nation is set on a path to recovery from the racial and ethnic wounds of the past. What a man says, when his position is *not* at stake is what matters – because that is the truth about what he believes. What he says, because in saying it he is primed to be the next president – that I do not accept as the truth.

SF is turning out to be an ego maniac. During CBK’s time too he desperately wanted his position extended. She thought he was a UNPer then and refused to extend his tenure. MR won and he extended it because MR and GR were good friends and they needed an able man to defeat the Tigers. SF’s skills are military. He is the key reason the Army was able to beat the Tigers. What is the chance of him caving into RW and Mangy and the jokers who said SF is not fit to lead the Salvation army? And remember Ravi K who said he is going to Medawachchi and not Kilinochchi and Pamankada instead of Ali Mankada.

RW is an opportunist who will want to defeat MR any way he can. He and the Gayly happy Mangy are the same who insulted SF. SF will not forget that. IF SF wins there is no reason for him to amend the constitution. Is there proof to say he is more honest than the rest when he has one foot in US another in SL?

in their obsession to defeat MR we will see a military government and dictator.
