But that very act is seed for making unity unacceptable.

All what has been happening is only crushing any resistance to oppression – be it 1956 or 2006 – without the slightest change in bureaucratic oppression.

But the price of tea does not come down when the price of sugar comes down. Likewise the power that accumulates continues to accumulate whether it is wanted or not.

Everyone wants MORE power. None are prepared to reduce their power.

THE MORE THE MERRIER

”This deficiency in the provision of legal aid means that some members of Sri Lankan society, particularly those of Tamil ethnicity, are unprotected within the criminal justice system. We are alarmed by these reports, as it is precisely those individuals whose cases fall within the PTA and the ER who are most at risk of a conviction resulting from a trial process that tilts heavily in favour of the prosecution,….. ”

” The IBAHRI was, however, heartened that all of the government representatives it met with acknowledged that these extraordinary legislative and regulatory provisions are ‘exceptional’ measures which are intended to be repealed as soon as the armed conflict is over.”

The government thinks that the armed conflict is not over till the last (imagined) ”Tiger” is weeded out from behind trees or bushes or grass which is going to be eternity for those IDPs in the camps not only in Vavuniya but also in Vaharai, Valvettithurai and Vidathaltheevu.

Sri Lanka’s expert damage control exercise can never be beaten by anybody in this world.

Can you Pl. write this in Sinhala for the sake of our sisters/brothers who light crackers on the street and feed kiribath to by passer by force? ( but pl. be careful not to be named as an enemy of teh state soon)

The Trojan horse they so gladly welcome is creating a Zimbabwe and Myanmar put together in the (once?)Theravadica Dammadeepa

Wait for the presidential election which will be announced sooner than later.
The absolute power has corrupted absolutely.

This is the price that Sinhalese intellectuals must pay for letting the war-hawks run the civil service!

Did they really think because the LTTE went away, those in power would turn the other cheek?

Au contraire! The tyrant’s grip on power has only been solidified! Rajapakse ltd. is now a monopoly!

I hope the kiri-buth parties & Lion-flag parties were good, because their won’t be much else to celebrate for a longggg time!

In fact, I suggest the remaining intellectuals take their exit visas and leave now!

I think we may take it as a given that these emergency powers will be with us in the long term. It would be interesting to review the constitution on the assumption that these powers would be permanent features and also to contrast the remaining rights in the constitution with the constitutions of our near neighbours in the subcontinent.
