The Government and their spokes persons should learn the art of diplomacy, which seems to be sadly lacking in this present day.

A simple exercise in controlling one's tongue would do wonders in enhancing the image of the SL Govt and its efforts at ending the terrorist war. Very often the statements made come across as being very arrogant and high handed.

This just serves to provide a grounding for the LTTE propaganda claims of a racist administration.

I wonder if there are constitutional protections allowing for hateful speech or can the propagators of such speech be held to account in a court of law?

One wrong does not justify another. Humans shed human tears. I imagine crocodiles have their own methods of expressing sorrow. There are civilians in harm's way. Let us ask our soldiers and politicians to get them out safely

Whilst people were praying in Kattankudy Mosque innocent 500 were gunned down and who were my brothers, by the LTTE terrorist. Then were is the so called Tamils Humanitarian organisations. At that time your presses were rolling giving excuses. Now the LTTE is getting back from the same coin what they used and they deserve. You should ask the LTTE to release the civilians who are being used as " Human Shields" without giving crocodile tears.

The UN Secretary General on 30 January 2009, which welcomed President Mahinda Rajapaksa's announcement of safe passage to a secure environment for civilians who are kept as a human shield by the LTTE in the North.
The Government has taken several measures to ensure the safety and security of the civilians in the recent operations aimed at clearing the remaining few areas of the Mullaitivu district of LTTE activity. In view of the fact that the LTTE is holding the civilians by force as human shields, and not allowing them to enter into the cleared areas, the Government had demarcated a "safe area", and informed civilians to move into the safe area. However, the LTTE had violated the objective of the safe area by moving mortar and heavy weapons into, this area and firing from within the safe area over civilians, thus causing civilian casualties, and endangering their security.
The government wishes to reiterate its position that the military activities are aimed solely at eradicating terrorism. The Government of Sri Lanka has adhered to , and will continue to adhere to a "zero civilian casualty" policy in its effort to eradicate terrorism.

For instance;
The Ruling DMK yesterday sharply criticised the LTTE for not responding to the 48-hour ceasefire declared by the Sri Lankan Government in the Vanni region to evacuate civilians caught in the fighting between the Army and the Tigers.
The LTTE had not given any word on the safe passage of Tamils in the conflict zone, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister and DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan said in the State Assembly.
Replying to a mention by Congress whip S.Peter Alphones in this regard, he said even after last night's (Thursday's) announcement of the ceasefire by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, LTTE leader V Prabhakaran and his cadres did not come forward to reciprocate it.
UN agencies had also welcomed the new move by the Sri Lankan government, said Anbhazhagan, who faced questions from the members on the issue for the second day in the absence of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who is indisposed. He wondered why the LTTE had not yet allowed the people a safe passage from the war zone.
