If this happens only the facilitators and resolvers of conflict, politicians, post conflict care-givers and hand-outers and their agents in Sri Lanka will benefit, as “Assisting” the process for a nation to recover from conflict generates more business and jobs for certain segments of the population and certain countries of the world. Preventing the increase of the poor and destitute will increase the security in our land and prevent the incubation of militants and unrest. Let us do something tangible, rapidly to avoid the arrival of doomsday. Please contact me through the following email if you are interested in actively participating in developing a strategy and action plan to prevent the arrival of doomsday in Sri Lanka: [email protected] We can do it if we wish, as I am sure that at least 1% of the population are honest and concerned:]]> Access to basic food for vulnerable Children and poor families, are they Human Rights too?.

I would like to be connected to people or blogsites that focuses on “The right of humans to have access to basic food” or “Preventing the increase of poor and hungry and future militancy” .

I am promoted to request this due to two reasons:

1) I just heard that the price of flour has been increased by Rs 13 a Kilo today. The loaf of bread is to be increased by Rs 4. (September 28, 2007). I would like to know, what % of the population living in subsistence eat bread! If we have this figure, we can rapidly analyze and find out how many will become militants soon.

2) I was surprised to meet many adequately dressed (Not from traditional beggar families) children begging for food last week while walking in the streets at 7PM. When I asked them to go home, they said that their father earned only LKR 100 that day, and was unable to feed them in the evening. Another child said that their family had a small boutique but with the opening of large “supermarkets” in the vicinity, the family income had rapidly diminished, and as the prices of goods and transport were inflating day by day, could not restock their boutique to continue their small business. Another said that their father was a fisherman, but their fish were not being sold anymore as many people preferred to go to supermarkets to buy fish and other food with “Credit Cards”. (This was analyzed and it was found that even middle-income families did not have cash as they had become poorer and lived on their future income)

When I asked the children what causes all this, they said that their elders had informed them, that there is a war and all the costs have gone up, as arms and ammunition need to be purchased. When I asked them why there is a war, they said they did not know.

I write this letter to “Awaken” and sensitize all concerned citizens, Leaders, NGOs, INGOs, Militants, Affluent persons, Preachers, and CEOs of conglomerates (Who ate breakfast and plan to have a good meal at lunch) and those that inform the public that they are doing many things in the name of their Gods, leaders, philosophies, share holders, for “The poor”,” charity”, “peace”, “Freedom” and “Redemption” and also publish in the media and on websites that their “Actions have saved many” and companies have a “Great record” of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), that they HAVE FAILED. They are passively or actively increasing the number of poor and hungry children and families, while other children are living in insecurity, as they are child soldiers and slaves of commanders. We need to do something Radical, to Rapidly return families to Normalcy. (RRN). If RRN is not assured quickly these children may get together and manifest in front of “Supermarkets” that killed their family businesses, and even go to the doorsteps of the leaders, NGOs and militants to sit down and wait till they are fed. How many children and for how long can they be fed?. Unfed and hungry children become the militants, freedom fighters and even terrorists of the future.

Those of us who are aware and REALLY concerned citizens, who write articles and blogs on the Internet, cannot remain idle, and hope that all we hear will blow away, and dream that peace will arrive automatically. We have to set up Honest, Neutral and strong CCCs (Concerned Citizens Committees) of Sri Lankans to work harder and advocate and pressurize our leaders (In the West, North, Central, East and South) to Kill their Egos, speak to each other and halt the animosity and disharmony and unite to stop the war which will prevent the cost of living rising that affects the poor, that results in militancy, manifestations and tendencies towards additional conflict. Those who know that this will happen and keep quiet are playing into the hands of those who have underlying reasons (Political power, mockers of leaders, increased business due to unrest etc). They will be rewarded by having to live in another Rwanda, Liberia, Cote d’Ivoire or DR Congo very soon.
