Why is Islamic fundamentalism connected to International Terrorism?
In 2004 or 05 when an article of mine appeared in the press in the same heading, I received a telephone call from a Muslim gentlemen who wanted my address so that he could send me an English version of the Koran in order to convince me that Islam was not connected to Terrorism.
My deeper questions are based on the following lines.
There is Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity and Islam as the major religions of the World. They individually command over 1 billion each.
Walking in the streets of Colombo or Kandy or anywhere, speaking generally and commonly can anyone identify and differentiate a Buddhist from a Hindu or Christian?
Ordinarily it is difficult or not possible.
The Muslims can be easily identified, ladies wear a long black gown, the men wear a long shalwar like dress. (there are exceptions)
The men have beards, some nicely and neatly shaved and some ruffled I believe that is to show the public or whoever that he is a Muslim.
The rest of the world is now getting anxious at this excess of exhibiting ones religious acceptance in public.
Why would anyone want to know what religion you belong to?
The world generally believes that “Religion” is a private matter of belief or conscience. To display your religious significance in public is now attributed to being tantamount to demand Public acceptance.
This is not so with the other Religions.
While driving through any part of Sri Lanka, be it Beruwala Negombo or Puttalam you can pick a Muslim not a Hindu, Buddhist or Christian.
This issue is now raging in Europe, people are resenting this “Public Exposure” of religion.
One can understand if you go to a hamlet in Jaffna you may find many in a “VERTI” and in Katankudi a hamlet with Fez caps beards and long black gowns.
Now in some parts of the Real Islamic world like Syria, Iran and Afghanistan, women are shedding their Gowns and men their beards.
They are demanding to be free like any other.
Of Course in some areas they are being threatened By the Islamic Fundamentalists.
You see Bin Laden who was not wanted by any Country wore a Islamic dress, on the other hand Amadinajed wears a combination of trouser a shirt and coat, whereas Assad is always in a tie and coat.
So it is time the educated Muslims set an example.
KEEP YOUR RELIGIOUS BELIEF TO YOUR SELF, WE DO NOT WANT TO KNOW WHAT RELIGION YOU ARE PRACTICING.
ALL OF US ARE EQUALS. RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE MUST BE PRACTICED INSIDE TEMPLES CHURCHES AND MOSQUES.
