Renunciation

We turned out of bed
saddened and furious
when we heard
Taliban detonated
the Bamiyan Buddhas:

What savagery,
to destroy testaments
aged over centuries,
to a now effaced history;
but today let us rejoice,

Akon the singer
has been denied
a visa and a chance
to feed the unruly
and sexual minds

of a sold-out
Sri Lankan crowd,
Christians no doubt,
urbane Muslims
certainly, even some

fallen gautamas,
they can’t be trusted
pogo dancing,
and we don’t want
skin exposed

near Lord Buddha.
Yet, I wish to offer
a disclaimer
along with a refusal
to appear before

a court-martial
or an investigative judge
to testify about
the nature of We
to which I belong.

  1. What is the disclaimer?

  2. Defending non-violence
    with violence

    Injustice to non-Buddhists
    does not matter

    Detain people in camps
    and deny UN help

    Build Buddha statues
    everywhere

    We look for any site
    for filming

    It just happened
    to be a site ….

  3. The present Government Of Sri Lanka(GOSL) carried out an unnecessary war. The issue was political and it required negotiation with the freedom movement, LTTE.

The GOSL called the war by diierent names to hide the real purpose of the war; war for the independence of Tamil Eelam(TE).

GOSL carried out Tamil genocide, which the UN will soon find out when the special council on SL starts its hearing or investigations.

It is rather stupid for any person to expect the ethno-racist, genocidal regime in Colombo to act fairly and take care of Tamils and their needs in TE.

This is the very reason, now we see, the Tamils in exile, in all the countries, deciding to implement the Vaddukoddai resolution of 1976. And the sufferings of people in places like Kilinochchi are become worse.

The people of TE must look after themselves. Till then there can never be a “looking after”.

Therefore, the UN must decide to bring about speedily, the independence of TE and accept it to the world body of nations, if it likes caring for the people of TE.

  4. O My servants, I have forbidden oppression for Myself and have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another.

  5. Do I remember correctly that when Mara sent the maidens to tempt Buddha, he said these are only “sacks of skin” and stayed true to his goal of attaining liberation through concentration of the mind. Why do you doubt the ability of the Buddha in the form of statue to do the same that the Buddha achieved in the form of a man made of flesh? Or is it your own lack of control that you fear? Have faith people. And practice what Buddha taught instead of protecting the name of Buddhism only. You can find more worth for your lives and can find better use of your time and energy than to be wasting them on some pop-star and his (or his video producer’s) lack of understanding about respect for symbols of religious significance.
